How much do Google Ads cost in 2026? This is one of the questions I get asked a lot.
The simple answer is that Google Ads doesn’t have a fixed price. You decide how much you want to spend, and the actual cost depends on your industry, location, competition and the keywords you’re targeting.
How Google Ads pricing works
Google Ads runs as an auction. Every time someone searches, Google decides which ads to show and in what order, based on how much each advertiser is willing to pay per click and how relevant their ad and landing page are to that search. You only pay when someone clicks, which is why you’ll hear it called pay per click.
That means there’s no price list. The cost per click for the same keyword can be very different from one business to the next, and it changes over time as competitors come and go. What you do control is your daily budget, which keywords you bid on, where your ads show and how good your ads and landing pages are.
What affects the cost of Google Ads
- Your industry. Some industries, like legal, finance and trades in big cities, have far more advertisers bidding for the same searches, so each click costs more.
- Your location. Advertising in Dublin usually costs more than advertising in a smaller town, simply because more businesses are competing there.
- The keywords you target. Broad keywords bring in lots of searches and lots of wasted clicks. Specific keywords, like a service plus a town, are usually cheaper per lead.
- Your Quality Score. Google rewards ads and landing pages that match what the person searched for. A better Quality Score can lower what you pay per click.
- Your landing page. If the page people land on doesn’t convert, every click costs you money for nothing. A good landing page brings the cost per lead down.
Typical Google Ads budgets for a local business in Ireland
For a local business in Ireland, I would normally look at budgets like this:
- €10 to €20 per day, around €304 to €608 per month, for a smaller local campaign.
- €20 to €40 per day, around €608 to €1,216 per month, for a typical local service business.
- €40 to €75 per day, around €1,216 to €2,280 per month, for more competitive industries.
- €75 to €150+ per day, around €2,280 to €4,560+ per month, when you’re competing for higher-value leads.
Personally, for most local businesses, I would rather start with a sensible budget and collect real information before spending more.
How I start a new Google Ads campaign
For example, I might start a local service business at €20 to €30 per day. That’s roughly €608 to €912 per month.
Then I look at what actually happens:
- How many calls did we get?
- How many enquiries?
- Which keywords produced them?
- Which areas performed best?
- How much did each lead cost?
- Which searches wasted money?
Once I have that information, I can decide whether increasing the budget makes sense.
Is €10 or €20 a day enough for Google Ads?
It can be, for the right business. €10 a day can work for a small local campaign with a tight list of keywords and a small area, for example one service in one town. It won’t stretch far in a competitive industry or a big city, because a handful of clicks can use up the whole day’s budget.
For most local service businesses, €20 a day or more gives you enough clicks to learn something useful within the first month. On a very small budget, it’s better to focus on fewer keywords and do them properly than to spread the money thinly across everything.
How to stop wasting money on Google Ads
Most wasted spend on Google Ads comes from the same few things:
- No negative keywords, so the ads show for searches that were never going to become customers.
- No conversion tracking, so nobody knows which keywords are actually producing calls and enquiries.
- Location targeting that’s too wide, paying for clicks from people outside the area you serve.
- Ads running at times nobody can answer the phone.
- Sending traffic to the homepage instead of a page built for that service.
Fixing these usually does more for your results than increasing the budget.
The cost people forget: managing the campaign
There’s another cost people sometimes forget about, which is managing the campaign.
At Astory Media, I separate the advertising budget from the management fee. If you’re spending €1,000 per month on Google Ads, that €1,000 is your advertising budget. It goes to Google. You might then pay around €450 per month for me to manage the campaigns. That means your total monthly cost would be €1,450.
Google Ads management fees at Astory Media
For larger campaigns, the management fee increases because there are usually more campaigns, keywords, locations, ads and information to manage. As a rough example:
- €500 ad budget: around €350 management.
- €1,000 ad budget: around €450 management.
- €2,000 ad budget: around €600 management.
- €3,000 ad budget: around €750 management.
- €5,000 ad budget: around €1,000 management.
One-time setup fee for new accounts
For a completely new Google Ads account, I may also charge a one-time setup fee. This can cover keyword research, campaign structure, negative keywords, conversion tracking, GA4 or Google Tag Manager setup, ad creation and the initial campaign configuration.
What matters more than the budget
The important thing for me isn’t how much money I can get a business to spend on Google. It’s whether I can turn that advertising budget into calls, enquiries and customers.
If €600 per month is producing profitable work, we can consider increasing it. If €2,000 per month isn’t producing results, spending another €2,000 isn’t the answer. I need to find out what’s going wrong first.
Is Google Ads worth it for a small business?
For many local businesses, yes, as long as it’s set up properly and tracked. Google Ads puts you in front of people who are searching for your service right now, and it works from day one, which SEO doesn’t. The trade-off is that the enquiries stop the day you stop paying. That’s why a lot of businesses use Google Ads for enquiries now and SEO to build something that lasts.

Frequently asked questions about Google Ads costs
What is the average cost of Google Ads in Ireland?
There isn’t one average that means much, because it depends so heavily on industry and location. For local businesses, the ad budgets I’d normally look at range from around €300 to €2,300 a month, with more competitive industries going higher.
Is the management fee included in my ad budget?
No. At Astory Media the ad budget and the management fee are kept separate. Your ad budget is paid to Google, and the management fee is paid to me for running the campaigns.
Why does the management fee go up with a bigger budget?
Because bigger budgets usually mean more campaigns, keywords, locations and ads to build, test and keep an eye on.
